It’s finally Friday. Stop what you are doing, put your map down and check out my picks for tonight’s shows.
Start of your Friday by seeing a special screening of IFC’s comedy series, Maron. The show stars Marc Maron as a grumpy man who needs to get out of his head and grow-up. The first episode of the series was actually aired at the festival a few years ago, so it’s a great way to celebrate #FlashbackFriday.
Entertainment Weekly named Wanda Sykes as one of the 25 Funniest People in America. I think that’s enough reason to see Sykes. She is one of the funniest, smart-witted and quick comedians in the business, which has allowed her to have a successful career. Stop by the Paramount at 7:00 p.m. because this is one headliner you cannot miss out on.
The Sklar Brothers, who are known as the hosts of Sklarbro Country, have created a show filled with some of your favorite comedians. The rotating cast includes: Alingon Mitra, Joe Zimmerman, Nate Bargatze, Dom Irrera, Troy Walker, Tim Williams, Cash Levy and Adam Newman. With the Sklar Brothers hosting, expect a night filled with randomness that will leave you with stomach pain from all the laughter. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. at Speakeasy.
Rachel Feinstein is in Austin. Is that a good enough reason to go see her at Cap City Comedy Club? No? Feinstein is a comedic powerhouse who knows how to mix in punchy jokes and anecdotes with longer, comedic stories about her life. Catch her show at 10:30 and you can thank me later.
End the night with two of my favorite comedians, TJ Miller and Pete Holmes. I’m a bit* biased since I am a huge fan of both of them, but that’s even a bigger reason to stay past your bedtime. Doors open at 11:00 p.m. at the Paramount so make sure you are there. Why? Miller and Holmes are two of the bigger names at the festival. With these two sharing the stage, you can expect to pee your pants. No one really knows what to expect, but that’s the best part. You will leave wanting to get a beer with them.
Come back tomorrow to see my Saturday picks.
Update 2:00 p.m.: Sklar names were misspelled.
