The Drag Queen Diaries is a collective of drag queens relating their experiences in this “diary.” We are breaking open the diary for you to read. You will meet a diverse set of queens who have a plethora of tips, stories, and piping hot tea to spill. Start reading, because the library is officially open!
Meet our first queen of the Drag Queen Diaries:
I’ve come to the realization that I am not just a man, I am a queen. A drag queen, nonetheless. I think it’s time for me to come out of the closet, wearing high heels, a beautiful gown, and some overly long nails, and explain to the world who I am.
Apply a liberal amount of foundation. Don’t forget to contour. Add highlight. Blush. More blush. Just a little bit more blush. Blend it out. Perfect. Line your lips and add the lipstick. Look in the mirror and *pops tongue*. You’re not a drag queen yet. Every performer needs a name. A good one, something that people will always remember. Your name shall be… Aurora DeAmores.
Donning a blonde wig, pink eyeshadow, and some excessive eyebrows, Aurora was born in a small dorm room at The University of Texas at Austin. With the help of her drag friend, Monica, she turned Arturo into Aurora.
But who is Aurora? Aurora is fun, fish, and fierce. She can work the runway in 5-inch heels and commands the audience’s attention. She loves using bold colors in her makeup and can’t stand a heel that’s less than four inches, much like another thing. Wink.
The most fun part about becoming Aurora is developing her eye makeup. I really enjoy experimenting with the colors, blending, and the overall look that I’m going for. But, one of the most dreading things I hate doing is painting on her eyebrows. Eyebrows are the devil. We hope for twins, but we get step cousins twice removed.
Aurora DeAmores may be a little flirty, but she doesn’t need a man. She’s her own woman. Aurora is strong and powerful, but she’s one of the sweetest loves you’ll never have. Aurora may only be a little older than a year, but she’s learned a lot and she’s ready to dish the tea.
Stay tuned for more entries from the Drag Queen Diaries to learn more about Aurora, her drag friends, and their drag fantasy.
