Austin Asian American Film Fest returns this weekend

Film buffs, your local Asian American film festival is back and bigger than before.

The 9th annual Austin Asian American Film Festival will feature narrative films, documentary films, and short films from a variety of Asian countries such as Japan, Vietnam, China, South Korea, India, and much more! The 4-day fest takes place Nov. 3-6 at the Blanton Museum of Art’s Edgar A. Smith Building.

Films

12 feature films and documentaries will screen at the Edgar A. Smith Building.

  • “After the Storm” (Japan, drama)
  • “Breathin’: The Eddy Zheng Story” (U.S., documentary)
  • “Creepy” (Japan, thriller)
  • “Finding Phong” (Vietnam, documentary)
  • “Grass” (U.S., comedy)
  • “Kaili Blues” (China, drama)
  • “Kissing Cousin” (South Korea, drama)
  • “Mele Murals” (U.S., documentary)
  • “Nostrum” (U.S., comedy)
  • “Tyrus” (U.S., documentary)
  • “Unbroken Glass” (U.S., documentary)
  • “The Wolf Mask” (South Korea, documentary)

Awards

This year, the festival committee will hand out Audience and Jury Awards in four categories: Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Narrative Short, and Best Documentary/Experimental Short. Attendees can vote for films after each screening.

Special events

In additional to watching films, attendees can a chance to mingle with fellow badgeholders and filmmakers. This year’s events will take place at Hopfields, Michi Ramen, Hole in the Wall, Sa-Ten Coffee & Eats, and Nomad Bar.
