SXSW Music 2018 will feature over 2,000 musical acts from all over the world. With so many new and eclectic performers on the lineup, it can be difficult to narrow down an itinerary (even if you have five backups for the inevitable situation of not getting into a show or two). However, you’ll want to be sure to add these nine awesome female solo artists and bands taking the official SXSW stage this year.
Australian indie pop artist Amy Shark was born and raised in Australia where she achieved triple platinum for her single “Adore”. Shark’s popularity as an artist also got her support from famous pop artist, Sia.

Latin artist Karol G has gained quite a bit of popularity over the years, having collaborated with famous Latino artists Nicky Jam and Bad Bunny. Karol G is from Medellin, Colombia and will perform under the Latin Urban and Reggaeton genre.

Ace Tee
German soul artist Ace Tee combines catchy beats with her soulful lyrics. With her innovative melodies, her music can be enjoyed by all, German fluent or not. Her song “Bist Ju Down” (featuring Kwam.E) is known worldwide and was created in her hometown of Hamburg, Germany. Ace Tee was raised by Ghanaian parents and grew up trilingual. On top of managing an international music career, Ace Tee also achieved the feat of having her own H&M clothing line.

IAMDDB
Trap music meets urban jazz. That’s the combo that describes hip hop and rap artist IAMDDB. The UK singer released her latest EP, “Hoodrich” yet again another combo of her two genres throughout.
IAMDDB show is TBD on March 18.
Liz Brasher is not average Americana-Soul singer, Brasher’s music has a much darker take on the genre’s sound. Brasher grew up around singing with many of her family members singing in her all Spanish baptist church. Brasher’s parents are from the Dominican Republic. Brasher was born in Matthews, North Carolina and is now in Memphis, Tennessee. She attributes much of her inspiration to Bob Dylan and his ability to create “pure folk songs”.

Jade Bird grew up living with her grandparents in South Wales after her parents divorced when she was a teenager. It was at this point, that she began writing songs. Bird eventually got into a groove of writing one song per day to hone her skills. Years later, Bird released her first EP “Something American” which she had been working on since she first began songwriting.

Vita and the Woolf got inspiration for their name from the relationship between novelists Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West. American Synth-pop group Vita and the Woolf released their latest album “Tunnels” on June 16, 2017. Don’t let their genre fool you, the vocals are strong in their song “Sun Drop”, and it’s clear in their music this group is more than just synth.

Barbara Nesbitt is at widely acclaimed as it gets, she has earned herself a spot in “5 Best Female Singers” and “3 Best Songwriter” categories in the Austin Music Awards. She has also been nominated for “Best Americana” and “Best Album” of the San Diego Music Awards. Nesbitt also successfully founded the local Austin band, Whiskey Sisters and has sang backup vocals for country legend Willie Nelson and Bob Weir. After her SXSW performance, she will be heading out on a European tour. Did I mention her latest solo release, “Right as Rain” is already on rotation on SiriusXM?

Nothing says girl power quite like Alice Bag, a solo female punk rock artist. Bag began shaking up the LA punk scene early on in the late 70’s when she founded a band named the Bags with Patricia Morrison. While the band was short-lived that was only the beginning for Bag. Bag continued her punk rock career into the 80’s all the while attending school and becoming a teacher. Nearly forty years later, Bag released her first album “Alice Bag” and plans to release another in Spring 2018.
