A Look at “Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween”

“Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween” trailer just dropped sans Jack Black.

REAL. SPOOKY.

I’m a child of the 90s, I get amped as HELL for some “Goosebumps” and if I’m being perfectly square, I quite enjoyed the first “Goosebumps” film. It was silly, in the most charming way possible, and was a welcome and quirky revisiting of some of my all-time favorite stories.

So you can imagine how hyped I was when the trailer for “Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween” dropped.

This trailer is bringing the fun. There are 62 “Goosebumps” titles, and that’s not even counting R.L. Stine’s various spin-offs. The trailer dangles that fact out in front of us with the implied tease of, “Which terrifying tale are we going to bring out for the sequel?” Our first monster appearance? Slappy the Dummy, that scary son of a bitch. YES!

Like in the first “Goosebumps,” the “Goosebumps 2” trailer shows that the film knows its roots. We’ve got kid shenanigans, creepiness with a touch of brightness, and some very fun atmosphere. It just oozes “fun Halloween movie”. I can dig it.

The trailer unveils some classic monsters and an awesome visual of what appears to be Halloween witch decorations coming to life. It looks like a fun romp and I’m 100% on board. Though the last shot of the trailer, teasing attack gummy bears, did totally take the wind out of my sails. I’m just going to pretend I didn’t see that.

Rob Letterman and Ari Sandel co-direct this spooky adventure and the film features the work of composer Danny Elfman. Can we just crown Elfman the King of Halloween already?

The film will be missing the Stine stylings of Jack Black but Jeremy Ray Taylor (“IT”) takes the lead alongside Caleel Harris and Madison Iseman.

“Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween” hits theaters this October. Do you think you’ll go see it? What did you think of the trailer?
