Japanese band WagakkiBand stopped by Austin two weeks ago to perform at SXSW 2016. Shuffle Online’s staff writer Sara Eunice Martinez sat down with the band members before their performance about their musical influences, how they formed the band, and what they’re looking forward to.

WagakkiBand is composed of eight members: Yuko Suzuhana, the lead vocalist in shigin (Japanese singing poetry); Kiyoshi Ibukuro is the koto player, which is a Japanese 13-string instrument; Daisuke Kaminaga is the shakuhachi player; Beni Ninagawa, the tsugaru-jamisen player; Kurona is the wadaiko (or Japanese drum) player; Machiya, the guitarist; Asa, the bass player; and Wasabi, the youngest member and drum player.
