Our little birds informed us that “Game of Thrones” will officially end after season 8. Yup. You read that right. The end is near. There have been rumors that seasons 7 and 8 would be the last for “Game of Thrones,” but HBO’s President of Programming Casey Bloys confirmed at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour that season 8 will indeed be the last.
“Yes, I think [the showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff] have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” Bloys said. “If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 seasons but we want to take their lead with what they could do and what the best version of the show is.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)
Despite the confirmation, fans still have questions!
How many episodes will season 8 have?
HBO recently confirmed that season 7 will consist of seven episodes. For season 8, Bloys said that the exact number of episodes has yet to be determined, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Will there be a spin-off?
Bloys explained that there have been talks on that matter.
“We’ve talked about it, it’s something I’m not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively. I’m not sure that the guys could really wrap their heads around it when they’re just about to start production. It’s a pretty intense production, they’re about to start production soon. I’m open to it. The guys weren’t opposed to it, but there’s no concrete plans for it at this point.” (via Comicbook.com)
