If you were born in the late 80s to early 90s you had to have watched “Bill Nye: The Science Guy” in one of your science classes growing up. Getting the opportunity to meet the man who helped me develop a love for science and reason was surreal. I have to admit my inner geek lost its cool and this was definitely the highlight of my SXSW 2017 experience.”Bill Nye: Science Guy” is a documentary directed by two die hard fans of Nye, David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg who ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to make this film happen. Alvarado and Sussberg make long form docs about cool S.H.I.T. (science, health, information, technology).

The documentary is an interesting look into the life of the famous scientist that doesn’t shy away from tackling some of the obstacles that have come along with his fame. We get a glimpse into a life that includes fast-paced selfie taking, that famous debate with creationist Ken Ham and completing mentor, Carl Sagan’s dream of launching a solar sail.
We chatted with Alvarado, Sussberg and Bill Nye at the red carpet premiere of the film that you can see below.
“Bill Nye: Science Guy” premiered at SXSW at the Vimeo Theater on March 12. Bill Nye can be seen on Netflix April 21 with his new series aimed at adults, “Bill Nye Saves the World.”
