Alamo Drafthouse: “The Bad Batch” Long Pig Roast recap

Texas summers can be unbearable but entities like the Alamo Drafthouse can save us from thinking about a summer filled with days over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. No, they can’t make the heat go away, but they do make the summer cooler with amazing events like  “The Bad Batch” Long Pig Roast at Stunt Ranch that took place on Father’s Day. Tim League (co-founder/CEO of the Alamo Drafthouse) had said, “I am so excited to be a part of this cinematic, sonic and culinary orgy of raw unadulterated fun, that I’m making this my Father’s Day agenda” and listed the top 5 reasons this was the perfect way to celebrate here.

This was an event dedicated to celebrating Father’s Day and also showcasing the post-apocalyptic film, “The Bad Batch” with Writer/Director Ana Lily Amirpour and actress Suki Waterhouse in attendance. Stay tuned for a full review of the film in a separate post. “The Batch Batch” is about a dystopian love story in a Texas wasteland that is set in a community of cannibals. The film has some hefty start power including Suki Waterhouse, Jason Momoa, Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey and Diego Luna.

The “Long Pig” roast event took place at Stunt Ranch where there were activities inspired by the film including a Dad’s Day photo booth, some knife throwing, trapeze swinging and more! Amirpour and Waterhouse even took part in the photo booth fun.

A special barbecue menu inspired by “The Bad Batch” was prepared by Micklethwait Craft Meats on-site and was freaking delicious! Look away now if you can’t handle roasting pig heads. Let’s just say it was a good thing we ate before the film because there was definitely some cannibal action in the film that would have made it hard to keep down the delicious food!

Black Star Brewing Cooperative debuted their limited edition Bad Batch Ale, a smoked session ale brewed with peachwood smoked malt and a touch of lemon verbena. There was also plenty of LoneStar beer on hand to keep hydrated. Overall the atmosphere was upbeat, mixed with smoky bbq aroma in the air and great music while we waited for the film to get started.

Everyone camped out in front of the Rolling Roadshow make-shift screen and got cozy once the movie started. We heard a few words from Amirpour and League prior to the film and then we sat back and watched the film.

There was a Q&A after the film that was live-streamed across all participating Alamo Drafthouse locations. “The Bad Batch” will be out in theaters on June 23.
