ATX Concert Recaps Music

Sydney Wright Throws Party for New Single and Music Video “Seiche”

Experimental pop artist and Austin local Sydney Wright threw a rad single/music video launch party on Friday, May 4th at Cheer Up Charlies, one of our favorite places! Does the name Sydney Wright sound familiar? You may have read our recap on her previous event Pajama Jam in February or you may have even caught a segment of her’s on FOX 7’s “Music in the Morning.”

Sydney has been writing music for more than a decade and has grown and made strides since first learning piano as a little girl in her hometown West, Texas. Wise beyond her years, Sydney’s music delivers stories that are relatable to all – she always aspires for her music to resonate with listeners.

Sydney’s new single and music video “Seiche” reveals just a a little bit of her genius mind. In our recent interview with her, she explained to us the meaning of the French word seiche: “‘to sway back and forth.” To Sydney, “Seiche” is about transcendence, going against the grain, and finding your own identity. Though the music video has not been released to the public yet, we highly encourage you take a listen to the single, a memorable anthem that will leave you feeling empowered each and every time you listen to it.

Not only is Sydney a talented, rising artist, but she is a kind, genuine-hearted soul. She’s the kind of musician that truly appreciates everyone in the crowd and will make the effort to make it known – shoot, she even sat down with me to introduce herself the first time I met her! Her presence makes you feel immediately at home, and her music makes you feel as if it was written just for you.

To no surprise, we had a blast at her event at Cheer Up’s and already can’t wait for her to throw another one. Another thing we love about Sydney? She often uses her parties as an opportunity to showcase her fellow musician friends – other sets throughout the night included Carrie Fussel, Otis Wilkins, Pls Pls Me, Ladyfang, and DJ Cez, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Appropriate on “May the Fourth Be with You,” Sydney rocked a stellar silver dress (check out photos below!) that had us reminiscing on “Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century.” She clearly knew the look she was going for, opening up her set by proclaiming “Zetus lepetus!”, a reference that not all caught but for those who did, mad kudos to you.

Sydney shook Cheer Up’s with her powerful, upbeat tunes that had us forgetting about all worries from the long work week. Different from her set at Pajama Jam where she performed solo loop music, Sydney was accompanied by a full band that complimented her music beautifully. Promoting optimism, livelihood, and raw truth, Sydney’s performance was the perfect way to kick-start the weekend on the right foot.

Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Sydney, and be sure to check out her debut album that is set for release in fall of 2018!
