From Mumbai, India, Nagavalli is an Austin-based musician who harmoniously co-mingles sounds of both the East and the West. Described as “Eastern Soul,” Nagavalli’s music is a blend of east-Indian soul with sprinkles of rock, pop, and trance. Truly one of a kind, Nagavalli is an artist who delivers harmonious melodies that feel both otherworldly and tranquil.
We recently chatted with her about the new album that she describes as a “back to roots journey” for her that she hopes is a “calming, meditative experience” for those who listen. A continuously recorded piece of 15 minutes, “Immersion” was an organic, in-the-moment production with a lot of “call and response.” To hear more about Nagavalli’s history in music and aspirations for the future, read the full interview here.
Nagavalli glided on stage with a presence that immediately instilled me with a sense of peace and curiosity. Sitarist Indrajit Banerjeewowed us with his strings of serenity while Nagavalli’s enchanting voice echoed throughout the theater. It was the perfect way to wind down after the weekend and enter a pure mind space for the week ahead. Other special guests included Patrice Pike, Oliver Rajamani, and Ginger Leigh, all of which equally impressed us with their musical talents and ability to fuse their sounds seamlessly with everyone else on stage. Rich in culture, expression, and emotion, Nagavalli’s album release show was musical art at its finest.
