A one-of-a-kind multi-sensory exhibit, the Museum of Future Present is a music-driven, immersive art experience and “visual mixtape of space, time, and mind.” Native Hostel has partnered with LA-based Eye Contakt Creative, Black Fret and WHEN WHERE WHAT AUSTIN on the project, which has been designed to “provide viewers the opportunity to reimagine how they experience sight and sound while surrounded by nostalgic nods to the past and references to the future.”

The series of installations are a collaboration of various musicians and artists including Strangeloop, Shabazz Palaces, Hannibal Buress, Lorelei Linklater, Manya K, McKay Felt, Nothing, OFF!, Once and Future Band, Morgan Delt, BIIANCO, Jay Hollinsworth, Emily Utne, Samantha Wendel, Protomartyr and Fucked Up. Additional artists will be added in the future on a rotating basis, and Black Fret has also arranged a secret schedule of live music events within the exhibit. “It’s a little punk rock, it’s a little fuck yeah, and it’s a lot of photographic moments.”
We had the opportunity to attend their VIP and media invite-only opening event on Wednesday, August 4, which was sponsored by Deep Eddy Vodka and Blue Norther seltzer, featured a live performance by punk supergroup OFF! and most importantly, let us get an exclusive first look of the Museum. It was a mesmerizing evening full of magical visuals, fantastic music, amazing drinks and good people. Every turn and corner had it’s own theme, and each display it’s own story and vibe. A true immersion of art and sound, The Museum of Future Present allows you to get lost in the moment and leave the rest of the world behind. Check out our gallery below to get a sneak peek of what’s in store for you – I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.
The Museum of Future present is open to the public for the next few months and may be pre-booked through their website. The duration of the experience is one hour and costs $32 for entry.
