If you’re a Texas native and hip-hop enthusiast you’ll want to make sure to add these three Texas-based artists to your SXSW 2018 schedule. Check them out.
DNA Music Group (DNAMG) has been making music for over the past decade, and it certainly shows in their music. Despite having been in the industry for more than 10 years, the band’s original member, J. Row, is no stranger to change and adaptability. The band has recently added Dallas local and Odessa native, Antoine Banks onto their vocals. In spite of the group’s recent changes, their commitment to their Texas roots has remained constant. DNAMG describes themselves as a group that focuses on storytelling and “poetic lyricism”.
DNAMG will perform on March 13 at 8:15 PM at Karma Lounge and March 14 at 8:15 PM at Ironwood Hall
Anti-Lilly (Houston,TX)
Anti-Lilly is a 25-year-old artist who hails from Houston and describes his music as hip hop rap and lo-fi. Per his self description, the presence of rap is certainly more present in his music. Paired with a hip-hop beat, his music focuses on the words in each song rather than the beat. Anti-Lilly has released five projects in the past five years with his most recent titled “It’s Nice Outside” with Phoniks, who has been a collaborator of his for the past four years. They first worked together in 2014, on another one of Anti-Lilly’s projects, “Stories from the Brass Section”.
Anti-Lilly will perform on March 17 at 8:20 PM in the Sheraton backyard.
Blake (San Antonio,TX)
The 19-year-old trap artist gained his popularity recently in late 2016 for his song “Flexin” which received over 12 million views in the past year since its release. Often described as brash, Blake’s style of rap is certainly unique. Each song showcasing a different facet of his style of rap with new inflections in each song. Blake, his middle, name, was born in Beaumont, TX and later moved to San Antonio.
Blake will be performing on March 14 at 11:30 PM at Ironwood Hall.
