On May 26, 2018, Stunt Ranch Cinema will present a 10-year anniversary screening of the second (and most beloved) film in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. “The Dark Knight” originally hit theaters in 2008, and we can’t believe it’s already been a decade! The film is famous for Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker, for which he won a posthumous Oscar.

Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow is known for putting on fun cinematic events, like Movies in the Park and Jaws on the Water. This year, they teamed up with Austin’s own Stunt Ranch to screen beloved action films with accompanying real-life explosions. We attended the “Iron Man” 10th anniversary screening and it was a blast (pun intended)!
For “The Dark Knight,” the team again plans to set off fireballs and explosions for the audience every time there’s an onscreen explosion. As their promos have noted, the scene in which The Joker leaves the hospital will be quite an experience for everyone attending. Having never watched “The Dark Knight” on the big screen when it was originally released, I’m thrilled to get this chance to not only watch it in a theater-esque experience, but to up the ante even more with the planned explosions.
In addition to the movie screening, the event will also feature superhero-themed games and activities, as well as a DC character costume contest with a $50 grand prize. Seeing people’s takes on their favorite Batman villains will surely be tons of fun, as will hearing the inevitable Christian Bale “Batman voice” imitators in the contest. There will also be themed cocktails for the 21+ crowd attending the screening.

Stunt Ranch will open for the event at 5:30 PM, and the screening will start after sundown (8:45 PM or later), so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the atmosphere and the stunts available to try for yourself. As before, there will be food trucks onsite, so bring your appetite! Pets are not allowed at Stunt Ranch, and the venue is BYOC (bring your own chairs). The Rolling Roadshow website has ticket links and further details.
If you love superhero movies and are looking for an adventurous outdoor activity, make sure to add Stunt Ranch Cinema to your to-do list this season!
