“I’m what you call a nice cold can of whoop ass.”
This was a pleasant surprise for a Friday morning. The “Fast and Furious” spin-off “Hobbs and Shaw” starring the Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham has just released their first trailer. And it’s outrageously perfect. It’s better than expected.
I’ll be honest. The “Fast and Furious” franchise has been running low on gas lately. As much as I love explosions, cringey Vin Diesel dialogue and outrageous plots, my threshold for those films has been wearing thin. Cue the action and budding comedy of Johnson and Statham who have chemistry and charisma for days. They are such a perfect on-screen pair it’s no wonder Diesel might be a little jealous of the duo. Don’t worry Vin, this helps the “Fast and the Furious” franchise!

“Hobbs and Shaw” is an injection of new life into the future of the franchise. The film is directed by “Deadpool 2” director and former stuntman, David Leitch. This movie is going to be action-packed and I can’t wait!
The plot is nothing new: Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and outcast Deckard Shaw (Statham) form an unlikely alliance when a cyber-genetically enhanced villain Brixton (Idris Elba) threatens the future of humanity.
There’s one liners, explosions, Elba as the “bad guy” I never knew I needed, Vanessa Kirby (“Mission:Impossible – Fallout”) solidifying her action movie chops and Eiza González. Badass men AND women. Good job.
From first viewing, the trailer introduces us to Elba as the “bad guy” who has made himself into a super powered human – yes, the franchise is entering the superhero sphere. Elba is so believable and menacing from this first trailer that I’d watch them go into space. He’s a fan favorite and a spot-on casting choice alongside Johnson and Statham.
“Hobbs and Shaw” is going to be fun one. This what I want from my summer blockbusters, explosions and cheesy one liners. What can I say, I’m a simple gal.
