SXSW 2019: Tomar and The FCs Left a Smile on Our Face

Tomar & the FCs (one of our 10 must-see Austin bands at SXSW) had several showcases during SXSW, one of which was at the YETI/BMI Day Party on March 13, held at Yeti’s flagship store on beautiful South Congress.

Formed in 2015, this soul band has made strides over the years, performing in festivals all around Austin, from Old Settler’s Music Festival to Austin City Limits. In 2016, they were even chosen by NPR Music to represent Austin for their Tiny Desk Concert Series (check out our recap on NPR’s Tiny Desk Family Hour this year at SXSW).

Pssst! Tomar & the FCs also performed at last year’s River Revival Festival by Splice Records! Check out our recap here

Featuring Tomar Williams (Vocals), Andy Tenberg (Guitar), David Earl (Organ), Mitch Fischels (Bass) and Paul Kresowik (Drums), this band is a must-see here in Austin and pretty much a rite of passage for every Austinite. I was so excited to catch their set at the YETI/BMI Day Party and couldn’t imagine a better way to spend a sunny Wednesday afternoon.

Attendees relaxed on the green lawn outside of the Yeti store, some laid out on blankets, others close up to the stage to take in all the energy Tomar and the FCs were pouring out on stage. With a cocktail in hand, I ventured into the crowd near the stage and joined in on liveliness.

Tomar is not just a singer, he’s a performer. Finding a way to connect with everyone in the crowd, he delivers such a refreshing performance that makes you feel like he’s singing directly to you. With a smile ear to ear throughout the whole set, Tomar left us feeling happy and excited for life. I honestly couldn’t ask for more.
