Old Settler’s Music Festival 2019: The Lone Bellow

Old Settler’s Music Festival 2019 was held at the Homestead in Tilmon, Texas April 11-14, and though some time has pass, I’m still daydreaming about the amazing weekend I had camping, hanging, and doing my favorite thing – listening to some of my favorite bands. Read all about the full Old Settler’s experience here!

If you know me, you’ve probably heard me mention a little trio called The Lone Bellow. Originating from Brooklyn, New York, the Lone Bellow is an American/indie folk/alt-country band that features the spirited Zach Williams (guitar, lead vocals), the glamorous Kanene Pipkin (mandolin, bass, keyboard, vocals), and the soulful Brian Elmquist (guitar, vocals). Moving, relatable, breathtaking, and energetic, The Lone Bellow’s music has become the ultimate comfort for me over the past few years. I listen to them when I’m feeling sad, when I’m feeling happy, and all other emotions in-between.

When I heard they’d be performing at Old Settler’s this year I audibly gasped with joy. An Old Settler’s veteran, The Lone Bellow embodies the spirit of the festival. Even more fitting, I was first introduced to the band at the festival back in 2017. Years later, I’ve had the opportunity to see them perform two more times and it never gets old. In fact, you can read all about their amazing show at the Granada Theater here!

The Lone Bellow never disappoints. Each performance of theirs holds a unique energy, a fresh twist on their songs I’ve grown to adore. Gracing the Bluebonnet Stage on a spring Saturday evening, the three band members poured their hearts out through their greatest hits. Below are those that I particularly worship, most of which can be found on their first, self-titled album “The Lone Bellow” or “Then Came the Morning.”

  • “Green Eyes and a Heart of Gold”
  • “Fake Roses”
  • “Tree to Grow”
  • “You Never Need Nobody”
  • “Watch Over Us”
