HOME Cookin’ for the Holidays: the Perfect Post-Thanksgiving Benefit Event

Austin-based nonprofit HOME (Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers) will be hosting their annual benefit “HOME Cookin’ for the Holidays” the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 27, at 7 p.m. As we continue to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will be held virtually and features a lineup of amazing artists, along with a cooking segment from participating musicians who will share some of their favorite holiday dishes. For those who enjoy relaxing and grazing on leftovers the day after Thanksgiving, this is the perfect event to enjoy from the comfort of your couch and get you right into the holiday spirit!

Founded over eight years ago, HOME is a nonprofit that aims to provide financial grants and housing assistance to musicians over the age of 55. Inspired by musician Miss Lavelle White, HOME was formed by a group of influential women in the Austin music community who wanted to help White find a home and performance network after moving back to the city. With continued support and donations, HOME hopes to continue adding to their COVID-19 Emergency Grant funding, which includes $500 one-time grants for rent and utilities for musicians 55 and older. The HOME Board of Directors includes Nancy Coplin (President), Marcia Ball (Vice-President), Denise Boudreaux (Secretary), Jaye Stepp (Treasurer), Deb Fleming, Marsha Milam, Sarah Brown, Shelley King, Catarina Sigerfoos, Carolyn Wonderland, Eve Monsees, Hanna Cofer and Reenie Collins. The HOME Advisory Board includes Susan Antone, Ruthie Foster, Becky Tomblin, Darcie Fromholz, M.J. Mendell, Andrea Villareal and Jai Malano.

This year’s music lineup includes a plethora of incredible musicians, many of whom you will likely recognize if you follow the ATX music scene: John Mayall, Marcia Ball/Tracy Nelson/Shelley King/Carolyn Wonderland, Delbert McClinton, Charley Crockett, Ray Benson, Lisa Loeb, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Ruthie Foster, Marc Broussard, Raul Malo, Jackie Venson, Gina Chavez, Vintage Trouble, Irma Thomas, Lucinda Williams, Shinyribs, Joe Ely, Jimmie Vaughan/Sue Foley/Mike Flanigin/Kaz, Jesse Dayton, Miss Lavelle White and Kathy Valentine.

“HOME Cookin’ for the Holidays” is a donation-based event and will be streamed via their Facebook page and Youtube. Those who donate will also receive all of the artists’ recipes from the cooking segment!
